The LSU Football teams offense went completely down hill in the second half of the Texas A&M game in part costing the Tigers the game. This was in part due to Texas A&M's second half adjustments and Garrett Nussmeier's struggles but, there was another reason you can look at as a reason LSU's offense started to struggle.
Late in the second quarter, starting left guard Garrett Dellinger went down for the game with a left ankle injury. Losing Dellinger was a massive blow as he's a great pass protector while most of LSU's rushing success has come when they've ran behind Will Campbell and Dellinger.
Once LSU lost Dellinger, Redshirt Freshman Paul Mubenga stepped into the role for the rest of the game.
On Tuesday, Brian Kelly disclosed Garrett Dellinger's injury with positive news that Dellinger won't be out long term.
"Garrett Dellinger had a high-ankle sprain, so we're hoping this week becomes a recovery week for him"Brian Kelly
Given that LSU is on a bye this week, Dellinger can take it easy focusing on recovering before the Alabama game. The downside is that high ankle sprains are a tough injury to project as everyone recovers differently, and it affects each position group differently. The bye week certainly helps Dellinger's chances of playing against Alabama but, we won't truly have an idea how Dellinger's injury has healed until next week.
If LSU is going to win this game, it'll need a balanced attack on offense and that starts with having Dellinger paving the way next to Will Campbell.
