The LSU offense has been a hot topic of discussion so far this season. They've good enough to get to 3-0, but its been the defense that has stolen the show early on this season. Brian Kelly gave a fiery answer in his post-game press conference when asked about the offense's performance against Florida, and then later apologized. As the Tigers get ready to face Ole Miss' high-powered offense in a couple weeks, LSU fans are hoping the offense can use this week's contest against Southeastern Louisiana as a tune-up game.
Garrett Nussmeier is off to a slow start this season. He's uncharacteristically missed throws at all levels of the field, and hasn't been able to get the vertical pass game going. He was clutch down the stretch against Clemson, but overall, Tiger fans know he is capable of much more. Through three games, the veteran QB has completed 69 of his 106 pass attempts for 689 yards to go along with three touchdowns and two interceptions. For comparison, Nussmeier racked up 895 yards for 10 touchdowns and two interceptions through three games last season.
After throwing for 4,052 yards and 29 touchdowns while leading the SEC in completions with 337 last season, Nussmeier entered the 2025 season as one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy. But after his slow start, Nussmeier's Heisman odds are falling fast.
Heisman odds update: Nussmeier falling after inconsistent start
After starting the season with the second-best odds to win the Heisman, Nussmeier now sits ninth on the Heisman odds board. More specifically, the Lake Charles native has odds of +1700 on FanDuel Sportsbook. The frontrunner entering Week 4 is Miami (FL) QB Carson Beck, who has odds of +750. Oklahoma QB John Mateer is not far behind at +850.
Given the shake-up in the Heisman odds market, Nussmeier is no longer considered a Heisman frontrunner entering Week 4. However, Heisman odds fluctuate often throughout the season, and if Nussmeier gets back on track, his odds could get back up towards the top.
Brian Kelly said that Nussmeier has been battling a torso injury so far this season, which could be contributing to his slow start. Entering Week 4, here's how the Heisman odds look on FanDuel Sportsbook:
Carson Beck (Miami FL): +750
John Mateer (Oklahoma): +850
Gunner Stockton (Georgia): +1100
Jeremiah Smith (Ohio State): +1200
Dante Moore (Oregon): +1300
Marcel Reed (Texas A&M): +1400
Julian Sayin (Ohio State): +1600
Joey Aguilar (Tennessee): +1600
Garrett Nussmeier (LSU): +1700
Devon Dampier (Utah): +1900
