Highly touted Transfer Portal Safety Zechariah Poyser plans a visit to LSU
The Transfer Portal has begun to get into its full swing as College Football players are entering the portal to find their next school while programs look at it as an opportunity to fill some needs. Early on in the cycle we've seen a ton of players with interest in LSU or LSU interested in recruits. The result that's the best to hear is a player setting up an official visit.
The Tigers will get Arkansas Tight End transfer Luke Hasz will be on campus for a visit today, while Purdue Edge Rusher Will Heldt will visit as well. The Tigers will get a look at filling one of their holes as Jacksonville State transfer Zechariah Poyser has set up visits to LSU, Auburn, and Florida.
Given that Poyser is from Wildwood, Florida, it'll be tough to land the Florida Native if the Gators make a strong play to keep him In-State.
Safety is one of the positions where LSU may need to bring in a few veterans to fill openings. Major Burns is out of eligibility while Sage Ryan and Jardin Gilbert have decisions to make. Even if LSU only needs to replace Burns, the Tigers have lacked true difference makers at safety the past few years and should look to add impact players.
This season at Jacksonville State, Poyser posted impressive numbers recording 75 tackles, 3 interceptions, 8 pass deflections, and two fumble recoveries. Poyser just finished up his Redshirt Freshman season meaning he has three years of eligibility remaining. According to On3's Transfer Portal Rankings, Poyser is the 8th ranked safety currently in the Transfer Portal and a Top-100 transfer.
If LSU loses both or either of Sage Ryan or Jardin Gilbert, the Tigers will be a younger at safety which makes landing an experienced players more important.
