After demolishing the Southern Jaguars on Tuesday Afternoon, the LSU Baseball team is back in action heading on the road for the first time this season to take on the Nicholls State Colonels. The Tigers enter the game red hot at 4-0 while Nicholls State is 2-2 with a loss to Northern Illinois and Omaha.
The Tigers have been headlined by their new look offense as the group that was to reliant on hitting homeruns last season has been transformed into a group that gets on base and takes advantage every time they get on base. While the singles and walks have been a breath of fresh air, LSU fans would love to see a little more power from the team as LSU will only face better pitching later in the season.
At the start of the season, Nicholls State's offense was impressive scoring a combined 15 runs in their first two games but, since that point the Colonels have combined for 4 runs over the last two games. Nicholls State will be looking to return to form offensively but, LSU needs to take care of a struggling opponent.
Given that Gavin Guidry hasn't made his season debut yet, he seems like the most likely starter for Jay Johnson. If Guidry doesn't get the start, Jacob Mayers who transferred to LSU from Nicholls State could be a perfect candidate to start against his former team.
