LSU picked up a 23-7 win over Louisiana Tech at Tiger Stadium on Saturday night. The Tigers got the win to move to 2-0, but the underwhelming performance leaves the Tigers with a lot to correct heading into this Saturday's SEC opener against Florida. LSU suffered some key personnel losses against Louisiana Tech, and their statuses will be closely-followed throughout the week.
Sophomore TE Trey'Dez Green suffered a lower body injury in Week 2, and after exiting the game in the second half, as seen on the sideline with a knee brace and crutches. On Monday, Brian Kelly gave a status update in regard to Green's injury.
Trey'Dez Green injury update
Speaking with the media on Monday, Kelly stated that Green has a sprained MCL and is listed as questionable at this time. Like Braelin Moore, Kelly said that Green's progress will be closely monitored throughout the week, and the staff will re-assess his potential status for Saturday's game against Florida later in the week. So, it seems that there is an outside chance that Green suits up against the Gators, although that is certainly a best cast scenario.
Green is a part of a dynamic receiving room that gives Garrett Nussmeier a plethora of weapons to work with. He was a hero in LSU's Week 1 win over Clemson, as he hauled in an eight-yard touchdown pass from Nussmeier in the fourth quarter that gave the Tigers a 17-10 lead. Last season in his freshman campaign, Green appeared in all 13 games and totaled 13 catches for 101 yards and four touchdowns. His best game came in the Texas Bowl win over Baylor when he set career-bests in receptions (6), yards (53) and touchdowns (2).
If Green is unable to go, Oklahoma transfer TE Bauer Sharp could see an increased role in the passing game. Sharp has five catches for 18 yards so far this season, and lost a fumble at Clemson in the season opener. He had 42 catches for 324 yards and two touchdowns last season with Oklahoma.
