After winning two national championships in the last three years, LSU head baseball coach Jay Johnson is getting a raise.
According to Wilson Alexander of NOLA.com, Johnson has inked a two-year contract extension that sets his new annual salary just north of $3 million. He is now set to make $23.45 million over the next seven years in Baton Rouge, with his new contract running through the 2032 season.
Jay Johnson receives contract extension after second national title
Johnson became one of the highest-paid coaches in all of college baseball after receiving a new contract following his first title in 2023. Last year, his salary was $1.67 million before bonuses, and was set to increase annually until he earned $2 million in 2030. Now, Johnson will make $3.05 million next year, with his compensation increasing annually by $100,000 until it reaches $3.65 million in 2032. With his new deal, Johnson is officially the highest-paid coach in college baseball.
Johnson took over the LSU Baseball program after six seasons at Arizona. He's led the Tigers to the NCAA Tournament in all four of his seasons in Baton Rouge, and owns an overall record of 190-77 (.712) with a 68-51 (.571) mark in SEC play. He led LSU to a pair of national titles in 2023 and this past season in 2025, which brings LSU's total number of College World Series titles to eight.
In just four seasons at LSU, Johnson has coached several big name players that are already making waves in Major League Baseball. Most notably, Paul Skenes is already one of the best pitchers in all of baseball, and is in line to win the National League Cy Young Award this season. After winning the College World Series this past summer, a total of nine LSU Tigers were selected in the 2025 MLB Draft, highlighted by Kade Anderson going No. 3 overall to the Seattle Mariners.
With Johnson at the helm, the LSU Baseball program figures to remain a College World Series contender every year. The Tigers return 19 players from last year's title team, and bring in a class of 20 newcomers via the transfer portal and the high school ranks.
