The LSU Baseball team is off to a solid start to the season with a 7-1 record holding D1Baseball's 2nd ranking behind the Texas A&M Aggies. The Tigers have been solid pitching all season along aside from one rough inning against the Omaha Mavericks. While nearly every pitcher on the LSU Baseball team has pitched thus far, the lone pitcher everyone has been waiting to see is Gavin Guidry.
Guidry seemed poised to start against Nicholls State before the game was pushed down the line due to weather. When Guidry didn't pitch at all during the Omaha Series, it started to set off alarms but, everyone expected he'd pitch on Monday against Nicholls everyone knew that something behind the scenes must've happened.
Following Monday Night's win over Nicholls, Jay Johnson shared an update on Guidry's status and the pitcher does have an injury. Guidry was slated to start on Wednesday versus Dallas Baptist but, according to Johnson he's dealing with a "Non-Throwing Injury" and won't pitch this week.
The good news is that Johnson said Gavin Guidry is slated to pitch next week and that the injury isn't a long term concern.
For LSU, the fact that Guidry hasn't appeared yet now makes sense and everyone will now hold their breath until Guidry toes the slab. If LSU is going to go on a deep run this season, the Tigers will need Gavin Guidry out of the bullpen as he's one of the Nation's best relievers.
Last season, Guidry made 22 appearances out of the bullpen for the Tigers posting a 2-0 record with a 2.59 ERA across 24.1 innings pitched while striking out 36 and walking 18. When Guidry returns its unclear whether he'll still get a start but, getting back one of the best relievers in the Country will be massive for the Tigers.
