The injury bug has bitten several former LSU Tigers in the NFL so far this season. Joe Burrow went down with a turf toe injury and is slated to miss at least two more months, and Malik Nabers tore his ACL and is set to miss the rest of the season. Jayden Daniels missed Weeks 3 and 4 with a knee sprain, and suffered another injury this past Sunday against the Cowboys.

In the 3rd quarter, Daniels was hit by Dallas linebacker Shemar James and lost the ball in the process. Daniels went down awkwardly, as his right leg appeared to get twisted up as James took him down. The former Heisman Trophy winning QB remained on the ground for several seconds after the play, grasping at his right knee/hamstring area. He then made his way to the medical tent where he was treated for the injury. He didn't return to the game, and a further update on the status of his injury was announced on Monday.

Jayden Daniels injury update: Not considered long term

According to ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Daniels had an MRI on his hamstring, and it was determined that the injury is not considered to be long term. That is certainly good news, but his status for Washington's next game against the Chiefs on Monday night remains up in the air. Schefter reported that Daniels' availability for that contest won't be revealed until later in the week.

Daniels threw for 156 yards and a touchdown on 12-of-22 passing to go along with 35 yards and a touchdown on the ground before his injury. He exited the game with the Commanders trailing 34-15, and they would ultimately fall to the Cowboys 44-22.

On the season, Daniels has thrown for 1,031 yards with eight touchdowns and just one interception on 146 pass attempts. He's also been effective on the ground, rushing for 211 yards and a touchdown over five games. He's having a nice sophomore campaign after earning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors last year.

If Daniels is unable to suit up against the Chiefs, backup Marcus Mariota figures to get the start for Washington. Mariota completed just four of his 10 pass attempts for 63 yards with no touchdowns and an interception in relief of Daniels against Dallas.
