The LSU Softball team is moving on to the Quarterfinals of the SEC Softball Tournament after a 5-0 win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs. The Tigers entered the game as the underdog according to the tournament seeding but, were the 4th ranked team in the RPI making it important for the Tigers to win as they look to secure a Top-8 seed ensuring they can host a Regional and Super Regional for the NCAA Tournament.

The Tigers won this game with a massive second inning as the Tigers offense exploded for 4 runs which was more than enough to win this game. LSU loaded the bases with no one out and the offense came through starting with Maddox McKee hitting a single back to the pitcher to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

Avery Hodge came through next drawing a bases loaded walk to take a 2-0 lead. Jalia Lassiter singled to the shortstop which drove in the next run but, heads up baserunning by the Tigers allowed LSU to score a second run on the infield single.

Frankly, the LSU Softball team only needed to score one run to win this game as Jayden Heavener was dominant on the mound. Heavener dominated Mississippi State pitching a complete game allowing just one hit without allowing a walk while striking out 8. The Bulldogs only got a runner into scoring position once allowing LSU to cruise to victory in this game.

In the 4th inning, LSU tacked on another run in the 4th inning as Avery Hodge doubled down the line in right field scoring Sierra Daniel.

The LSU Softball team is now set for a massive matchup against Oklahoma on Thursday Morning as the Tigers will face off against the top seeded Oklahoma Sooners at 11:00 AM Central Time.
