The LSU Basketball team is set to play its final Non-Conference game on Sunday as SEC play is set to kick off in January. The Tigers handled their business in Non-Conference play with a 10-2 record picking up some impressive Power Four wins, and some Mid-Major wins that could end up aging very well. The goal this season is to return to NCAA Tournament contention making the first tournament under McMahon as he continues to bring the program back.
Joe Lunardi's latest Bracketology has the LSU Basketball team is one of the four "Next Four Out" teams meaning the Tigers aren't too far out of contention.
While the Tigers aren't currently in the NCAA Tournament this is overall really solid news for the LSU Basketball team. Several of the teams ahead of LSU won't have nearly as many chances as the Tigers will have down the stretch to pick up massive wins while conference play may prove they're not as good as they seem.
Heading into the month of January, LSU will have a ton of chances to build their resume up as the schedule is absolutely loaded. In the Month of January alone, LSU will get to face Lunardi's Top overall seed Auburn, a 2 seed in Alabama, a 4 seed in Texas A&M, a 9 Seed in Arkansas, and a 11 seed in Texas.
This season, the SEC is easily the deepest conference top to bottom, and will most likely receive the most bids into the tournament. For LSU, finishing Conference play with an above .500 record with a few key wins over top seed should be good enough to punch their tickets to the big dance.
