Lane Kiffin is eyeing his next target. The new LSU head coach is known for his success on the recruiting trail, and he's hoping to extend that by bringing four-star Class of 2027 safety Tory Pittman to Baton Rouge.

Greg Smith of Rivals.com reported Thursday that both LSU and Miami are making a push to flip Pittman. And now, a further push is being made with an in-home visit as the two teams battle for Pittman.

Pittman, who has played out his high school career at Omaha Central High School (Omaha, Ne.), is currently listed by 247Sports as the No. 9 overall safety in the nation for his respective class. He is also ranked by the network as the second-best prospect in the state of Nebraska, as well as the No. 103 prospect across all positions, in the nation.

He currently holds 15 offers and is committed to the Nebraska Cornhuskers. There's some hometown appeal that Kiffin has to fight against here since Pittman would be able to continue his football career in his own backyard if he chooses to stand on his commitment.

LSU target Tory Pittman's recruiting timeline

Nebraska quickly gained the edge in Pittman's recruitment as the first team to offer him all the way back on Feb. 20 of 2023. Offers from Wisconsin, USC, Tennessee, Penn State, Iowa State, Miami, Missouri, Kansas State, LSU, Sacramento State, Florida State, Kansas, Oregon, Notre Dame, Michigan and Colorado, in that order, followed the offer from the Cornhuskers.

Nebraska stayed well connected throughout the process, hosting an unofficial visit for Pittman in Oct. 5 of 2024, and an official visit with the highly-touted prospect on June 19, 2026. This came almost one year after Pittman committed to the Cornhuskers on Aug. 15 of 2025.

Now, Nebraska will have to continue to hold on as the efforts of at least two teams ensue to try to pull Pittman away.

For LSU, the Tigers have merely offered so far (February 20, 2025). LSU has yet to have any unofficial or official visits with Pittman. Miami is slightly ahead from that perspective, hosting Pittman on an unofficial visit on the same day it extended the offer (January 21, 2025).

One has to wonder how much of a difference it makes that it is now Kiffin and his staff recruiting Pittman for LSU, as opposed to Brian Kelly and his guys. There have been plenty of complaints in the past on Kelly's below-par recruiting efforts, while Kiffin lies at the opposite end of the spectrum as arguably the best recruiter in all of college football.

Only time will tell if it is enough to snatch up Pittman in this late effort.

Tory Pittman brings plenty to the table

The multi-sport athlete projects as an instant asset to the secondary of whichever team he ultimately lands with, whether that is LSU or a separate program. 247Sports scout Hudson Standish listed some of the following in what he saw in his report on Pittman during the 2025 high school football season.

  • Three-phase impact player who projects as a rangy single-high safety.
  • Explosiveness on tape is backed up by 23-4.5 personal best in the long jump and 23.06 PR in the 200m dash.
  • Three INTs as a sophomore and extensive production at wide receiver showcase his ability at the catch point.

Even this early on, the ceiling is sky-high for Pittman, with projections that he's already showing traits of an NFL Draft prospect.
