Losing Frank Wilson is a crushing blow for Lane Kiffin and LSU
Kiffin not retaining Wilson is a move that stings for LSU fans. Wilson is among the best recruiters in all of college football, and losing him to an SEC rival only puts salt in the wound.
Wilson has been engrained in Louisiana football his entire life, and is now in his second stint at LSU. He has earned several accolades for his recruiting efforts in Baton Rouge throughout the years. Most notably, Wilson was recognized as the nation's Recruiter of the Year by Rivals.com in 2011, the Top Recruiter in College Football by NFL.com in 2014, and the SEC Recruiter of the Year by Scout.com in 2015. He was also acknowledged as the top assistant coach in the country in 2011.
Retaining Wilson would have been a major win for Kiffin. He has built established relationships with high school players and coaches throughout the state, and has played a vital role in bringing the top players in Louisiana to LSU. Some notable names Wilson has recruited to Baton Rouge include Leonard Fournette, Tyrann Mathieu, La'el Collins, Jarvis Landry, and Odell Beckham Jr.
Kiffin's early days as LSU's head coach have been effective, as he signed 14 players during the Early Signing Period including a pair of 5-star prospects in Lamar Brown and Richard Anderson. However, losing Wilson to Ole Miss is a tough loss that could come back to haunt Kiffin on the recruiting trail.
