Lane Kiffin has made another transfer portal splash by signing former USC QB Husan Longstreet. A former 5-star recruit, Longstreet is the 3rd quarterback Kiffin has signed through the portal, joining Sam Leavitt and Landen Clark.

Longstreet was ranked as the No. 4 quarterback in the 2025 recruiting class by 247Sports, and spent his freshman season backing up Jayden Maiva for the Trojans. He appeared in just 4 games in 2025, and has 4 years of eligibility remaining. In those games, he completed 13 of his 15 pass attempts for 103 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. He also collected 76 yards, 6.9 yards per carry, and a pair of touchdowns on the ground.

Looking ahead, the move to bring in Longstreet gives Kiffin a couple of different options. First, Longstreet could be a solid backup for LSU in 2026, as Leavitt has a bit of an injury concern at this time. Leavitt suffered a season-ending foot injury against Houston on October 25, and underwent surgery in early November.
He appears to be on schedule during his recovery so far, but it will be interesting to see if he misses any spring practice time. If the injury continues to linger, having a backup of Longstreet's potential could prove to be extremely valuable for LSU.
Furthermore, Longstreet could be a great potential long-term option at quarterback for the Tigers. Leavitt has 2 years of eligibility remaining, but could opt to enter the NFL Draft after the 2026 season. That could potentially put Longstreet in the driver's seat for the starting job as soon as 2027. Obviously a lot can happen between now and then, and in the transfer portal era, things can change very quickly. But if LSU plays this right, Longstreet could be a great long-term option down the road.
Leavitt enters the 2026 season as LSU's unquestioned QB1, but adding Longstreet is a solid move for Kiffin.
