The LSU Football team has used the transfer portal to build up its roster for the 2025 season landing key piece after key piece to put together arguably the best transfer class in the Country. While LSU was landing rapid fire commitments early on in the transfer cycle, lately the transfer activity slowed down for LSU as the needs dwindled down.
Over the Weekend, LSU added what was likely its last addition on the offensive side of the football adding Texas A&M tight end Donovan Green. The Tigers have now added what is likely the final addition overall until the Spring Transfer Window opens as LSU has picked up a commitment from NC State transfer safety Tamarcus Cooley.
The Tigers land Cooley over Ole Miss and Kentucky as both schools also hosted him on visits last week.
This season, Cooley recorded a 80.8 defensive grade and a 81.8 coverage grade according to PFF which are solid numbers. According to On3's Industry Transfer Portal Rankings, Cooley was the 71st best transfer in the class and the 2nd ranked safety marking a massive addition for LSU who adds another top defender.
Cooley started his career off at Maryland before he transferred to NC State spending one season with the Wolfpack. This season, Tamarcus Cooley recorded 39 tackles, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, and 6 pass defenses while grading out as the highest ranked player on NC State's defense.
The safety position was a massive concern for LSU this offseason as the Tigers lose Major Burns who's out of eligibility and Sage Ryan who transferred to Ole Miss as well as Jordan Allen who transferred to Houston. Cooley now slots in as an instant starter at safety while Jardin Gilbert, Javien Toviano, and DaShawn Spears can compete to play opposite Cooley.
