After dropping their first game of SEC play, the LSU Tigers returned to the field in Austin Texas looking to pick up a series win against the Texas Longhorns. From the start of the game, it looked as if Texas' offense had LSU's number as the Tigers trailed the entire game. LSU lost this game 6-2 and after winning the series opener, losing the series is a massive disappointment.
The Texas Longhorns jumped on LSU early making it clear they wanted this game badly. In the first inning, Texas pushed their first run across on an RBI single to center. In the 2nd inning, Texas scored two runs stringing three hits in a row together making it 3-0. In the fourth inning, Chase Shores made the mistake of walking a batter ahead of Max Belyeu who made him pay crushing a two run home run.
In the 6th inning, LSU's offense finally started to show some signs of life putting two runners on with one out. Jake Brown came through first with a single to right field which made it a 5-1 Texas lead. After Luis Hernandez popped out, Jay Johnson decided to double steal and it worked for LSU as the Tigers pushed Steven Milam across but, Jake Brown couldn't get out of the pickle.
In the bottom of the 6th inning, LSU's defensive changes may have cost the Tigers a run as Jared Jones was moved to third and couldn't come up with a ball which was followed by Jake Brown being unable to hold onto a double play all at first.
Dylan Volantis came in for Texas and killed any momentum the Tigers may have had going 3.1 innings allowing LSU to reach base once closing out this game and the series giving Texas the series win.
Chase Shores had a rough outing going four innings allowing 5 runs on 7 hits and a pair of walks while striking out 3. Casan Evans came into this game and really gave LSU a chance to stay in this game going 3.2 innings allowing a run on four hits while striking out 5. Cooper Williams came in for the final out of the game and showed poise as Texas tried to get him to balk delivering a strike to Luis Hernandez who tagged out the Texas runner.
LSU's offense really struggled to string anything together with just 7 hits on the day while striking out 11 times. Tanner Reaves had the best day of any of LSU's offense with a pair of hits in two at-bats before being pinch hit for.
The Tigers now have a day to reset before facing off against ULL on Tuesday before a weekend series against Mississippi State.
