After getting swept by Auburn this weekend, it was important that the LSU Baseball team quickly snapped its losing streak before another massive series against Alabama. As the McNeese Cowboys came to town, LSU needed to snap out of its slump on offense, and the Tigers wasted no time finding their rhythm.
Jay Johnson switched up LSU's batting order and it paid off almost instantly as Daniel Dickinson hit a leadoff single which set Jared Jones up to hit a 2 run blast to right center.

In the top of the fourth inning, William Schmidt's day would come to a close after he allowed a double and a two run home run to cut LSU's lead to 2. The True Freshman gave LSU 3.1 innings pitched allowing 5 hits and a walk resulting in 2 runs while striking out 4.
The good news for LSU is that after Connor Benge shut down the inning, LSU's offense quickly did what it could to put this game out of reach. After LSU quickly made two outs, Derek Curiel and Jared Jones both singled, putting runners on the corners for Ethan Frey. Frey singled to left to plate a run, Steven Milam would then single to right bringing another run home. Jake Brown would then reach on an error which scored a run and allowed LSU to bring its fourth run of the inning home on a Luis Hernandez single to center.
After Conner Ware allowed a runner to score in the top of the 5th inning, Jay Johnson went back to his bullpen calling on Mavrick Rizy. Going to Rizy proved to be the best move of the game as the Freshman gave LSU 2.2 innings of scoreless baseball, allowing just 1 hit while striking out 6.
The Tigers would quickly get the run back in the bottom of the 5th inning on a Derek Curiel sacrifice fly scoring Michael Braswell. The final run of the game would come in the 8th inning as Ethan Frey would double to bring Jared Jones home once more.
This game could prove to be valuable as Jay Johnson was able to get 6 of his younger pitchers into the game as he continues to look for pitchers he can rely upon. Mavrick Rizy, Cooper Williams, and Jacob Mayers all turned in stellar showings which will only help them gain trust with Johnson.
Coming off of a weekend where LSU's offense couldn't get anything going seeing the Tigers score ten runs in this game is encouraging. The Tigers were able to tally 13 hits and walked 8 times which is positive as the Tigers never appeared to be pressing.
The Tigers now get a few days to recover before hosting another Top 25 opponent as the Alabama Crimson Tide come to Baton Rouge.
