After rain ruined LSU and Texas A&M's plans on Friday Night, the Tigers and Aggies met on Saturday for a double header kicking the action off in the afternoon. As LSU sent the ace of its staff Kade Anderson to the mound and the Aggies sent Ryan Prager to the mound offense proved to be hard to come by.
One of the biggest factors in this game turned out to be wind which made it difficult to field fly balls while also affecting almost anything hit in the air. The Texas A&M Aggies would draw first blood in the second inning as Chris Stanfield Jr had trouble tracking a fly ball to center which ended up falling in as Stanfield couldn't hang onto the ball allowing Texas A&M to take a 1-0 lead.
The pitchers on both side would cruise trading scoreless innings until the 6th inning of this game. Jared Jones got the Tigers on the board tying this matchup with a solo home run to left field tying him for the 4th most home runs in a career at LSU.
The bottom of the 7th inning proved costly for the LSU Tigers as a few mistakes cost the Tigers a chance at winning this game. Ben Royo hit a clear double down the line in left but, as he tried to stretch it to a triple, Steven Milam couldn't make a throw giving Texas A&M a leadoff triple. A single up the middle made it 2-1 Texas A&M and a few plays later it was 1st and 3rd with one out. The wind hampered Stanfield's ability to make a play again as a ball went in and out of his glove after a battle tracking it which put runners on the corners with one out. Mavrick Rizy came in and held the game at 3-1 but, the damage was done as the Aggies had taken the 2 run lead.
In the 8th inning, LSU threatened loading the bases with 2-outs but, Ethan Frey flew out to right stranding 3 runners. In the 9th inning, the bottom of the order did its part getting two runners on with one out for the top of the order. Derek Curiel flew out to left followed by a strikeout by Jared Jones which ended the game for the Tigers.
Kade Anderson turned in another incredible performance with 6 innings pitched allowing just one run on the misplay by Stanfield allowing just 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 12. Zac Cowan took his first loss of the season allowing 3 hits and 2 runs while recording just one out but, his defense did no him no favors. Mavrick Rizy did an incredible job giving the Tigers 1.2 scoreless innings but, the Tigers were unable to capitalize.
Takeaway LSU's struggles in the field and it'll still be difficult to win any game in SEC play when you only score 1 run. The Tigers offense will have to snapback into rhythm quickly as the second game of the double header will take place at 6:32 PM Central Time.
