The regular season has come to an end for the LSU Baseball team and the real season now begins for Jay Johnson's team. The Tigers finished the regular season 42-13 with a 19-11 record in Conference play which was good enough to finish 3rd in the SEC earning the Tigers a double bye in the SEC Tournament.

Heading into the final weekend of the season, the LSU Baseball team was ranked by all 5 major publications as the best team in the Country. After taking 2 of 3 games from the South Carolina Gamecocks, the LSU Baseball team is still wearing the crown in D1Baseball's latest Top 25 rankings.

The Tigers being at the top of every National publication is nice to see but, will it truly matter when the NCAA Tournament committee unveils its brackets? The committee leans heavily on RPI where the Tigers rank 8th in putting LSU at risk of falling out of a Top 8 National seed which would take the path to hosting Super Regionals out of LSU's hands.

The area where LSU's RPI ranking gets dinged is with its Non-Conference strength of schedule as the Tigers faced the 237th ranked out of Conference schedule.

This week LSU Baseball could easily prove it's worthy of being one of the Top 8 teams in the Tournament with its performance in Hoover at the SEC Tournament. LSU has a double bye meaning at most they'll play 3 games but, one win could be all the Tigers need to lock in one of the Top 8 seeds.

LSU Baseball is positioned right where every fan would've hoped to see this team at this point in the season. Every National publication has the Tigers as their top ranked team but, LSU won't have the pressure of being the top overall seed this Summer. The Tigers will need to lock in a Top 8 seed this weekend but, Jay Johnson has this team positioned perfectly.
