The LSU Baseball team just kicked off its run in the NCAA Tournament as the Tigers picked up their first win on Friday Night. While the Tigers are still pushing for a National Championship, the offseason is becoming a focus as the transfer portal is beginning to open.

If there’s one thing that Jay Johnson has totally mastered during his time at LSU it’s using the transfer portal. The Tigers have been able to overcome massive losses to the MLB Draft on a yearly basis as Johnson has been able to replenish talent.

While the Tigers have their eyes on the prize looking to return to Omaha, Jay Johnson is doing a balancing act making his first transfer addition of the offseason.

LSU Baseball lands massive power threat at 3rd Base

On Saturday Morning, Jay Johnson made his first splash addition landing High Point 3rd baseman Brayden Simpson.

This season at High Point, Brayden Simpson together a massive season with a .389 average and a 1.251 OPS blasting 22 Home Runs with 24 doubles, 77 RBIs, and 14 stolen bases.

After losing Tommy White to the MLB, the LSU Baseball team hasn’t been able to find a ton of production at 3rd base. The Tigers have tried everyone who can play the position at 3rd base but, while the fielding has been excellent, it has been a hole in the lineup.

Simpson is a graduate transfer meaning that he’ll play just one season at LSU. The Tigers have a ton of retooling in the Infield to go through this offseason as Jared Jones, Daniel Dickinson, and Michael Braswell will all likely depart.

Jay Johnson now has his first puzzle piece in place and as teams start to see their season come to an end, the Tigers will continue to circle some of the best transfers in the Country.
