While the LSU Baseball team has been dominant for most of the season, one major storyline has stood out the entire year. Every week, LSU fans have asked the question "When is Gavin Guidry going to make his season debut?". To start the season, Gavin Guidry wasn't available which set off panic in the fanbase as everyone feared that he wouldn't end up playing.

Jay Johnson then gave LSU fans a ton of hope revealing that it was a short term injury at the end of February. Then Guidry was supposed to return for LSU against Auburn and when he didn't appear in the series LSU fans knew he was likely shut down for the season.

Jay Johnson officially rules Gavin Guidry out for the season

On Monday Night, after the LSU Baseball team's 10-3 victory over McNeese, Jay Johnson told the media that Gavin Guidry would miss the rest of the season.

After trying to return this season, Gavin Guidry will have a season ending back procedure according to Johnson. Jay Johnson also revealed that Guidry had an MRI and he threw a bullpen at Texas, on March 17th and 25th but, he didn't respond well. The surgery will take place on Friday and the recovery timeline is 3 to 4 months.

The news is obviously a massive disappointment for LSU fans as the Tigers weren't able to get one of their best pitchers on the field this season. Coming into the season, Guidry was either going to remain a high leverage reliever or make his way into the starting rotation.

In 24 appearances in 2024, Gavin Guidry went 2-0 with a 2.59 ERA across 24.1 innings while striking out 36 with just 18 walks.

Given that Gavin Guidry missed most of the season, it was going to be tough for him to return to form especially as he continued to battle with injury. The good news for Guidry is that he won't burn a year of eligibility on a season he spent injured but, losing Guidry is a significant blow to LSU's bullpen.
