After the LSU Baseball team won the first game of its weekend series against Mississippi State, both teams had to wait a little while longer than expected to face off again. Storms pushed the game back, allowing LSU fans to catch the end of the Lady Tigers Sweet 16 win on the jumbotron in the outfield. As the Lady Tigers game ended, the tarp came off the field and both teams were finally able to start a game that would end after midnight.
As LSU burned its best reliever Zac Cowan on Thursday Night, the LSU Baseball team desperately needed a solid outing out of Anthony Eyanson. Not only did Anthony Eyanson deliver but, he turned in his best outing in SEC Play. Eyanson went 5.0 innings allowing five hits, 3 walks, and a run while striking out 12.
The lone time Eyanson got beat was in the fourth inning when Mississippi State scored on a past ball, meaning it was an unearned run. The good news for LSU was that the run only tied the game as Ethan Frey crushed a solo home run to left in the second inning.

Before Anthony Eyanson left the game, his catcher put him in line for the win as Luis Hernandez hit a towering shot down the line in left field to give LSU a 2-1 lead.

Jay Johnson used the same approach in this game that he used on Thursday, calling on the best reliever to see how deep into this game he could go. Casan Evans made Jay Johnson's job easy, closing this game out by himself, turning in a stellar performance. Evans pitched the final four innings without allowing a home run while only allowing two hits and three walks while striking out 6.
On a night where LSU needed the pitching staff to step up as the offense struggled, the Tigers got one of the best performances of the year from its staff. Eyanson and Evans didn't allow an earned run while striking out 18. The length both pitchers gave LSU allows Jay Johnson to have almost every pitcher available as LSU goes for the sweep on Saturday.
LSU will look to finish off the series with a win on Saturday Night as the Tigers will face the Bulldogs at 6:00 PM Central Time.
