On Saturday, the LSU Basketball team outplayed the Ole Miss Rebels for just over 36 minutes before the Tigers allowed a 13-0 run allowing a massive win to turn into one of the toughest losses a team could suffer. The loss took LSU from potentially gaining momentum as they look to claw their way into the NCAA Tournament picture to a six game losing streak.
On Wednesday Night, the LSU Basketball team will look to get off the mat against the Arkansas Razorbacks. The game is significant in part because the Arkansas Razorbacks are the only team LSU has beaten in SEC Play. The game is also the first game following the disastrous ending to the Ole Miss game which is important.
How LSU plays in this matchup is important, if the Tigers come out flat it'll be another loss in a massive disappointment of a season. The Tigers will be heavy underdogs in most of the matchups they play the rest of the season and given that they've already beaten Arkansas, the only other game the Tigers may have a solid shot at winning is against South Carolina.
Heading into the season, it seemed highly unlikely that Matt McMahon would be on the hot seat even if it was a disappointing season. While it may still be unlikely, as the losses continue the conversation only starts to grow.
Is the issue for LSU Basketball that Matt McMahon isn't the right coach for the job? It's possible but, LSU also hasn't thrown itself into College Basketball the way the other top schools around the SEC have. Auburn and Alabama are the Nation's Top Two schools because of the investments they've made into their programs including on the NIL front.
Two things can be true for LSU Basketball, the Tigers haven't given Matt McMahon what his peers have gotten and the Tigers may need to make a change if they lose out the rest of the season. If fans, alumni, and boosters get tired of the losing, they'll look past it and make their own decision on the coach.
