LSU Basketball dominates the glass and on defense picking up big win Vs Kansas State
On a Night where Cam Carter easily could've been overcome by the emotions of returning to Kansas State where he spent two seasons, Carter was a star once again. Carter went 6 of 11 from the field and 3 of 6 from three scoring 20 points with a block, four rebounds, and a pair of assists leading the way for LSU.
The Tigers didn't win this game because of Carter's scoring as the Tigers bigs dominated on defense and cleaned up on the boards. LSU grabbed 11 offensive rebounds while allowing 8 offensive boards while the suffocating defense inside made it difficult on Kansas State all night.
The LSU Basketball team was shorthanded down low as Noah Boyde continues to recover from his injury last season while Derek Fountain suffered an injury pregame and couldn't play. In his second game receiving playing time, freshman Corey Chest turned in a massive performance grabbing a game leading 13 rebounds.
Along the same line, Vyctorius Miller was incredible for the Tigers giving the team energy and scoring off the bench. Miller made 6 of 9 shots and 2 of 4 threes finishing in a tie with Jordan Sears for the second most points on the team.
The only are you'd like to see a clear improvement from LSU going forward is in the turnover department as the Tigers turned the ball over 16 times while forcing just 7 turnovers.
This offseason, Coleman Hawkins considered transferring to LSU but, committed to K-State before visiting LSU. The Tigers shut Hawkins down holding him to just 8 points on 3 of 10 shooting from the field. Hawkins was clearly frustrated at the end of the game and took a massive cheap shot on Cam Carter as the Tigers were dribbling out the clock.
The scuffle carried into the post-game where Hawkins and Carter once again went at it with both being taken off the court.
A great win early on in the season for LSU
The Kansas State Wildcats aren't a ranked opponent but, picking up a win in the fashion that LSU did is massive for this team. This will end up being a Quad One win for LSU at the end of the season which give LSU a great resume piece when March rolls around. As the Freshmen continue to get their feet wet, this team will only continue to get better and raise its ceiling but, Matt McMahon has this team heading in the right direction.
