The transfer portal can strip a college basketball team of all of its familiar faces in one offseason as LSU fans are very familiar with. This offseason, the LSU Tigers have seen Damion Collins, Vyctorius Miller, Corey Chest, Noah Boyde, Mike Williams III, and Noah Boyde all leave the program. Matt McMahon and his staff have done a great job replacing each of the departing players but, having some continuity is best.
On Friday, the LSU Basketball team got confirmation that one of its true freshmen will return for a second season as Curtis Givens III confirmed he'll be back next season.
As a True Freshman, Curtis Givens III was leaned on starting at point guard at times playing 18.3 minutes per game while averaging 4.8 points per game, 1.7 rebounds per game, 1.6 assists per game, and shot 26.9% from the field. While Curtis Givens III didn't have a massive impact, he struggled shooting and if he can start to become a more efficient scorer he'll become a nice rotational player for LSU down the line.
Coming into the offseason, it was expected that Matt McMahon may lose some pieces from last year's freshman class but, the hope was that he could keep two of the three. As Givens III returns and Robert Miller is expected to return, LSU should have two young pieces to continue developing.
This offseason, LSU went out and got their starting Point Guard by landing UNLV starter Dedan Thomas Jr. Landing Thomas will cut into Curtis Givens III's minutes as Thomas will be on the court as often as possible for LSU. The Tigers do like to run two point guards at the same time but, Givens will be competing with the incoming Freshman class as well for minutes this season.
