This season, the LSU Basketball team started off strong in the Non-Conference portion of the season before collapsing in SEC play finishing conference play with a 3-15 record. When you have a season as bad as the Tigers did this season, there aren't too many players that are "can't lose" pieces in the transfer portal. Among the players LSU fans hope the Tigers would retain was their Freshman class particularly Robert Miller III who showed a ton of promise this season.
As LSU fans hoped another school wouldn't poach Miller, the Freshman forward eased the nerves of LSU fans by formally announcing he'll be back for LSU next season.
This season Robert Miller III didn't play consistently but, he averaged 4.5 points per game, 3.1 assists per game, and 0.9 blocks per game while shooting 61.5% from the field. Where Miller proved to be a star is down the stretch of the season as he had several massive performances near the end of SEC play.
Matt McMahon needed to get at least 2 of his 3 true freshmen back in the fold after the season and with the announcements by Miller and Givens, he accomplishes the feat. While LSU brings in some veteran transfers, the Tigers retain two young pieces that can continue to develop with LSU.
The LSU Basketball team is now set to be loaded at Power Forward and Center after this season. The Tigers return Jalen Reed and Robert Miller III while the Freshman class adds top-100 recruit Matt Gilhool to the forward grouping. Add in Marquel Sutton who will carry a massive load for the Tigers on offense and Mike Nwoko who comes in after starting the entire season at Mississippi State, and the room is stocked for LSU.
Heading into the most pivotal season of his tenure at LSU, Matt McMahon may have his most talented roster to date. LSU made a commitment to spending more on the NIL front and it's allowed LSU to build a competitve roster for next season as the Tigers have retained their key pieces and added a few big ones to the roster.
