The LSU Basketball team has given its fans an offseason to feel excited about as the Tigers have lived up to their promise of building a team that can compete with the best teams in the Country using the transfer portal. While LSU has landed several recruits, no transfer spelled out the new found success the way Dedan Thomas Jr did as the Tigers beat out several Blue Bloods to land a Top Ten player in the transfer portal.

After a 3-15 season in Conference Play, landing one game changing power forward wasn't quite enough to feel fully confident in this group. The Tigers still needed to add additional high level scorers especially at the forward position. On Sunday, Matt McMahon and his staff landed another player that takes this teams ceiling to another level.

Elite Power Forward Marquel Sutton signs with LSU Basketball

On Sunday, Marquel Sutton who is coming off of winning the Summit League Player of the Year committed to LSU despite several teams showing interest.

This season, Marquel Sutton averaged 18.9 Points per game, 7.9 rebounds per game, and shot 47.9% from the field. On3 ranks the Omaha transfer as the 74th best player in the transfer class which gives LSU another massive addition.

Landing Marquel Sutton is massive for LSU as he'll come in as the replacement to losses LSU suffered with Daimion Collins, Corey Chest, and Noah Boyde all leaving LSU. Marquel Sutton is a Power Forward which makes him a great fit alongside Jalen Reed, Mike Nwoko, or Robert Miller III.

LSU Basketball lacked size and elite scorers all season long and by landing Marquel Sutton, Matt McMahon gets to check off both boxes. When you watch Marquel Sutton play he's an incredible athlete that can bring the ball up despite being forward while he has the ability to rock the rim like Daimion Collins.

This offseason, LSU needed to go out and land true difference makers and to this point, the staff has lived up to that promise. The Tigers are now clearly upgraded and if they go into next season with this current group, the Tigers should have a much better season. Ideally, Matt McMahon and his staff could truly use one more scorer on the wing that can knock down three pointers but, time will tell.
