It's been four years since Ed Orgeron was roaming the sidelines in college football. Orgeron has spent the last several years away from football, but appears to be ready for return should the right opportunity present itself. Speaking with WAFB-TV's Jacques Doucet on Wednesday evening, Orgeron made a definitive statement regarding his future.

Ed Orgeron returning to college football?

Orgeron is ready to return to the coaching ranks. In August, Orgeron went on the Barstool Sports podcast Pardon My Take, and said he was "getting the itch" to return to coaching. But now, it appears Coach O is set on making a return.

"I'm ready to coach again," Orgeron told Doucet at the Patrick Queen Ceremony in Livonia on Wednesday evening. Orgeron specified that he doesn't need to be a head coach, stating that he just wants the situation that is right for him and available.

It's only October, but the college football coaching carousel is already in motion. Four head coaches have already been fired this season: DeShaun Foster at UCLA, Brent Pry at Virginia Tech, Mike Gundy at Oklahoma State and Sam Pittman at Arkansas. Orgeron has strong ties to Los Angeles, as he coached at USC on two different occasions from 1998-2004 and 2010-2013. He also has ties to Arkansas, as he was the assistant strength coach for the Razorbacks in 1986-87.

Orgeron is a legend in Baton Rouge, as he led the LSU Tigers to a historic National Championship season in 2019, with that team often being regarded as the greatest college football team of all-time. Overall, Coach O posted a 51-20 record at LSU with a 31-17 mark in SEC play. Orgeron has plenty of experience, and held head coaching positions at Ole Miss and USC in addition to LSU. It will be interesting to see what position he lands, and when.
