One of the sadder situations around the LSU Football program the past few years has been what happened to Greg Brooks Jr. The star defensive back transferred to LSU where he became a standout in 2022. His 2023 season was limited to just two games as it was discovered that Brooks had a brain tumor and had to undergo treatment and surgery.

Brooks has served as an inspiration to the team as the 2023 team wore number three helmet decals while Brooks number three was painted on the field.

We likely won't see LSU associating itself with Greg Brooks Jr for the time being as the defensive back filed lawsuits against LSU and Our Lady of the Lake.

Brooks is suing over the fact that a year after surgery, he still can't walk after having his brain surgery. In the suit, Brooks also claims that the coaching staff pushed him to play despite feeling ill threatening that he'd lose his role as a starter.

Our Lady of the Lake released a statement saying the following:

"First, and foremost, our prayers remain with Greg for his continued healing and recovery. Due to patient privacy laws and pending litigation, we can’t comment on specific individuals or situations,” a statement from the hospital said. “The neurosurgical team at Our Lady of the Lake is among the most experienced in Louisiana and they give our patients the best opportunity for a positive outcome in any circumstance. Providing excellent healthcare to those we serve is our top priority."

LSU also released a statement on the situation:

"While LSU cannot comment on ongoing litigation, Greg Brooks remains in our thoughts and prayers as he continues to work through the rehabilitation process. Since the beginning of our agreement with our Championship Health Partner, Our Lady of the Lake, they have provided exceptional medical care for our student-athletes in all of our sports."

We'll have to wait until more details come out surrounding the case but, any time a former athlete is suing the school over alleged malpractice it isn't a good look. The situation as a whole is horrible as Brooks can't walk a year after surgery as everyone hopes he makes a full recovery.
