The 2025 season has not gone how Garrett Nussmeier envisioned when he decided to forgo the NFL Draft for one more season with the LSU Tigers. The program entered the new campaign with hopes of competing for another National Championship, but are now nowhere near the College Football Playoff. Brian Kelly was fired on October 26 following an embarrassing loss to Texas A&M, and the chaos surrounding the coaching search has been a cause of frustration for Tiger fans.
Former LSU coach avoids the coaching carousel for at least another season
But LSU fans made sure to show love to Nussmeier in his final home game at Tiger Stadium. The veteran QB was unable to suit up for the second consecutive week due to a lingering abdominal injury, but the Tiger faithful gave him plenty of love when he was introduced during the senior night celebrations.

Garrett Nussmeier receives much-deserved love from LSU fans in final home game
The LSU crowd made sure to give Nussmeier a loud roud of applause when he was introduced during the senior night ceremony prior to kick-off against Western Kentucky on Saturday night. Nussmeier's loyalty and love for LSU is something that all Tiger fans can appreciate.
Nussmeier first came to LSU in 2021, and is now playing his fifth season of football for the Tigers. He spent time as a backup for the better part of three seasons before finaly getting his chance to start in 2024. He took advantage of that opportunity, throwing for 4,052 yards and 29 touchdowns while completing an SEC-leading 337 passes.
Nussmeier could have left LSU for a starting chance in his early years in Baton Rouge, but he chose to return to LSU multiple times. He made the decision to come back to LSU once again following the 2024 season, as he passed on the NFL Draft for one more ride with the Tigers. Unfortunately, the 2025 season hasn't gone as planned.
Nussmeier has been battling an abdominal injury all season long. The Lake Charles native has been clearly hindered by the injury, and hasn't looked like his normal self all season long. On the season, Nussmeier has thrown for 1,927 yards and 12 touchdowns with five interceptions. His career as a Tiger isn't ending the way he wanted, but Tiger fans are still appreciative of Nussmeier's loyalty and love for LSU.
