LSU fans join in on College Football's newest trend launching bottles onto the field
A few weeks ago when Texas was hosting Georgia, the Longhorns were called with what looked like an awful pass interference call. The fans reacted by launching water bottles, beer bottles, and anything else they could throw onto the field. This easily should've resulted in a Delay of Game penalty but, the referees instead overturned the initial call.
This set a bad precedent as fans thought it was acceptable to throw bottles on the field as soon as they disagreed with a call.
This trend carried on as two weeks ago Ohio State fans threw anything they could find onto the field and while it caused a delay, the call wasn't overturned. We saw it again on Saturday as Texas Tech fans threw bottles onto the field leading to Shilo Sanders sending one back to where it came from.
The LSU fans became the latest fanbase to join in the ridiculous trend of covering the field in water bottles after what was clearly a facemask by LSU's defense. That call kept Alabama's offense on the field leading to Jalen Milroe's third rushing touchdown of the day.
Then Kyren Lacy came down out of bounds on a close play on the sideline just a few minutes later. The LSU fans joined in once again throwing their bottles on the field after the referees overturned their call ruling the play incomplete.
The decision isn't smart as it puts other fans, players, cheerleaders, and coaches in danger if they're hit. It's also a bad look on LSU, there are 300 recruits in attendance and throwing bottles and booing the team isn't going to leave a good impression on any of them.
For now, the bottles is second on the list of embarrassments behind LSU's play to this point in the game.
