The main feeling around the Lane Kiffin sweepstakes is that Kiffin is going to leave Oxford. The Rebel head coach is slated to make an announcement regarding his future on Saturday, one day after Ole Miss' Egg Bowl matchup against Mississippi State. The timing of the upcoming announcement has fans thinking he is heading elsewhere, and LSU fans are hoping Baton Rouge is his next destination.

But there is still a chance that Kiffin decides to stay put in Oxford. He has stated his love for Ole Miss many times, and says he is happy where he is. As Kiffin thinks things over, Dan Patrick says there is one major reason why he could decide to stay put at Ole Miss.

Lane Kiffin's credibility is at stake

Kiffin has already been the subject of plenty of drama throughout his coaching career. Now, more chaos is surrounding him as he decides on his next career move. Kiffin is in his 6th season in Oxford, and has his team on the verge of the College Football Playoff and competing for a National Championship. He's spent every day of those six years working to get to this point, and is now seemingly on the verge of jumping ship.

But leaving from Ole Miss at this point in time could damage his credibility even more. As Dan Patrick points out, leaving Ole Miss would be a terrible hit to Kiffin's credentials.

Barring a sizable upset in the Egg Bowl, Kiffin's Rebels will be competing for a national title in the College Football Playoff. If Kiffin takes another job elsewhere, he will leave his team out to dry as they battle for a historic achievement. That wouldn't sit well with Ole Miss fans.

It goes without saying that Kiffin has been considering this when weighing his options. He knows the pros and cons of whatever he decides to do, and knows that either way fans will be upset.

But will that be the determining factor in his decision? Probably not, as he will do what he thinks is best for him and his family. But it's worth mentioning that Kiffin has tried to rebuild his image over the last few seasons, and leaving Ole Miss in the middle of a National Championship run certainly wouldn't do his image any favors.
