The LSU offense has been a major talking point so far in the 2025 season. The offense as a whole has looked out of whack and struggled to get anything going on a consistent basis. Against teams not named Southeastern Louisiana, LSU entered Week 5 scoring just 20 points per game through four games. It's been enough to get to 4-0, but the offense has been bailed out by stellar play from the defense.

The Tigers picked off DJ Lagway five times against Florida, but the offense managed to score just one offensive touchdown and 13 total points. If it wasn't for a Dashawn Spears pick-6, the Tigers were in serious danger of losing to the Gators despite an unbelievable performance from the defense.

The offensive woes have continued into Week 5 at No. 13 Ole Miss. In the first half agains the Rebels, LSU managed just 128 yards of total offense compared to Ole Miss' 285. The Tiger running game collected just 24 rushing yards on nine carries, which averaged out to 2.7 yards per rush. Through 30 minutes, the Tigers had just seven first downs to Ole Miss' 18, and had the ball for just over 12 minutes while the Rebels had nearly 18 minutes in time of possession.

Garrett Nussmeier completed just nine of his 15 pass attempts for 102 yards. He threw one touchdown and had an interception on a bad decision on a throw over the middle into double coverage. He also missed several short throws that should have resulted in completions.

LSU fans take to X to roast Joe Sloan

But the biggest cause of frustration from LSU fans has been the play-calling of offensive coordinator Joe Sloan. Once again, Sloan has elected for a conservative game plan full of short throws and a lack of a vertical attack in the passing game. The lack of a running game is also a major concern. It's possible Nussmeier still isn't 100% and is still playing through a torso injury, but Sloan's approach simply isn't working.

LSU's offensive play-calling is extremely predictable, and the Ole Miss defense hasn't been fooled at all. There's no threat of getting burned deep, so the Rebels are able to keep everything easily in front of them. If things don't turn around in a hurry, the Tigers are in serious trouble.
