The LSU Football team has had a massive need at defensive tackle that the fanbase has been dying to see filled for the past year. The struggles dated back to last spring when LSU searched the spring transfer portal for SEC caliber defensive tackles but, weren't able to bring any on board due to NIL asking prices. In the winter transfer portal window, LSU brought in Sydir Mitchell a high upside player who still needs to develop.

Entering the spring transfer window, LSU fans were hoping that the team would make a move to land a top defensive tackle. On Saturday Morning, LSU fans are waking up to massive news as the Tigers have gone out and landed the top player available in the transfer portal.

LSU lands elite defensive tackle Bernard Gooden bolstering the defensive line

After visiting Baton Rouge, the LSU Tigers make a massive move landing Bernard Gooden from USF keeping him from going on his final two transfer visits.

Gooden was drawing interest from Ole Miss and Miami which makes it massive news that the Tigers were able to shut this recruitment down.

This season at USF, Gooden emerged recording 35 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 2 pass defenses, and 2 fumble recoveries. While the stats may not be eye popping, Gooden posted an 82.5 PFF Grade which is a great grade for an interior defensive lineman.

Heading into the season, LSU was banking a ton on the development of younger defensive linemen to fill out the position next season. As Bo Davis' departure disrupted the development, landing a top defensive tackle only helps bolster the room while putting less pressure on the Freshman class this season.

The Tigers have now plugged one of their biggest needs and all eyes will be on the safety position if the Tigers are going to round out this spring with a bang.
