While this portion of the calendar has football fans mainly focused on the 2026 recruiting class, programs will start to build their recruiting boards for the 2027 recruiting class preparing to make their major push. LSU's staff has been great at identifying recruits more than a year from their National Signing Day which helped LSU land Havon Finney Jr and may be crucial in landing Boobie Feaster.

This weekend, LSU hosted one of the top cornerbacks in the 2027 recruiting class, extending a scholarship offer while also making a strong first impression as the Tigers begin to gear up their efforts with the 2027 class.

LSU hosts 2027 cornerback Ashton Alston handing out scholarship offer

On Saturday, the LSU Football program hosted 2027 cornerback Ashton Alston and Corey Raymond handed out an offer to the elite defensive back.

For LSU fans, Alston acknowledging how top defensive backs have to consider LSU is a great message to hear and a sign that LSU is returning to its defensive back standard under Corey Raymond after a few down seasons.

It's still a long time from the 2027 recruiting class signing but, Alston is ranked as the 62nd ranked player in the class, the 7th ranked cornerback, and the 2nd ranked player out of Ohio per On3's Industry Recruiting Rankings. Given that Alston is out of Ohio it would feel even better to nab him from Ohio State's backyard after the Buckeyes landed a commitment from Baton Rouge 5-star

As Corey Raymond is back at LSU, the Tigers can recruit elite cornerbacks nationally rather than regionally. The Tigers went into Florida last recruiting cycle to land DJ Pickett, and in the 2026 recruiting cycle LSU has gone out to California to land elite cornerback Havon Finney Jr. It's a great asset to be able to recruit with Corey Raymond's track record of development and as long as he's back in Baton Rouge the Tigers will be in the race for any top cornerback they target.
