One of the coolest storylines every year on the recruiting trail is when a former star athlete has a son or daughter that is just as hyped if not more as a recruit. We've seen it in college football the past few years with Arch Manning, Mason Taylor, Marvin Harrison Jr, and the Sanders brothers along with countless other players.
In the 2027 recruiting class, we'll see this trend once again with Cooper Witten, the son of Dallas Cowboys legend Jason Witten. The LSU Football team is the latest school to jump into the mix for Cooper Witten as the Tigers extended an offer to Witten.

It's still early when it comes to rankings in the 2027 recruiting cycle but, Cooper Witten is ranked as the 23rd ranked player in the class, the top linebacker in the class, and the 5th ranked player out of Texas. Witten has quickly racked up offers from some of the best schools in the Country including LSU, Oregon, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Michigan.
It'll be tough to win out in the recruitment of Cooper Witten as the field is already crowded following his Sophomore season. If Witten chooses to look at staying home, the Texas teams will all have the ability to make a strong push while Jason's alma mater Tennessee could make a very strong case as well.
Witten is a hybrid linebacker or safety a role in which several college teams include LSU have experimented with as of late. Depending upon how LSU deploys Harold Perkins Jr next season, that could be the Tigers pitch to Witten as they'll have found a best fit for players of his mold. If LSU is going to win out, Blake Baker will be the key for the Tigers as he's become one of the best at recruiting the position especially out of state linebackers.
