The LSU Tigers have a lot of work to do. Brian Kelly and his staff were thoroughly out-matched against Ole Miss on Saturday afternoon, resulting in a disappointing 24-19 loss for the Tigers. LSU now enters a bye week before hosting South Carolina at Tiger Stadium in two weeks on Oct. 11.
The Associated Press released its Week 6 college football poll on Sunday afternoon. Not surprisingly, the LSU Tigers fell a substantial amount following the loss to Ole Miss.
LSU falls out of top-10 in AP Poll
LSU and Ole Miss switched spots in the AP Top 25 Poll following Ole Miss' win over LSU. The Tigers fell from No. 4 in last week's poll to No. 13 in this week's poll, while the Rebels jumped from No. 13 to No. 4.
LSU's fall of nine spots is the second-biggest drop of the week, following only the 10-spot drop for Florida State after the Seminoles lost to unranked Virginia on Friday night. Florida State fell from No. 8 to No. 18.
The fall isn't surprising, as not only did LSU lose, but the Tigers were out-played for most of the contest. Ole Miss won by five, but it really didn't feel that close. The LSU offense continued to struggle and was hard to watch for most of the game. The defense kept them in it by allowing just seven points in the second half, but the offense just couldn't get going. It didn't help that LSU suffered injuries to key offensive players including WR1 Aaron Anderson and starting guard Paul Mubenga.
Ole Miss is now the highest-ranked SEC team. A total of ten SEC teams are in the poll: No. 4 Ole Miss, No. 5 Oklahoma, No. 6 Texas A&M, No. 9 Texas, No. 10 Alabama, No. 12 Georgia, No. 13 LSU, No. 15 Tennessee, No. 16 Vanderbilt, and No. 19 Missouri.
