LSU Gymnastics advances to Penn State Regional Final for third straight year

On Thursday Night, the LSU Gymnastics team advanced to the Penn State Regional Final making the Sweet 16 for a third straight year. The Tigers posted a 198.100 which tied the second highest score in program history in a Regional Semifinal. The Tigers advance to the Regional Final holding off Michigan and Maryland in this meet.

The Lady Tigers started on the floor where LSU put up five counting scores of 9.900 or more with Kailin Chio and Aleah Finnegan scoring 9.925 while Haleigh Bryant and Amari Drayton scored 9.900's.

LSU led the meet going into the second rotation, where the LSU Tigers took to the vault. KJ Johnson, Lexi Zeiss, Amari Drayton, Kailin Chio, and Haleigh Bryant all posted 9.900's once again giving LSU a massive leg up in this meet.

The Tigers took a lead into the third rotation, where LSU moved to the uneven bars, posting a 49.525, which was the second highest in program history. The Tigers once again only counted scores of 9.900 or better as LSU was dominant the entire night.

The LSU Tigers then took the beam scoring 49.525 once again which was the second highest score on the beam in program history. Aleah Finnegan posted a 9.950 leading LSU, and the Tigers were able to win the meet but, they would've advanced if they finished second as Arkansas will move on along with LSU.

After the meet, Head Coach Jay Clark spoke about the team's showing and pointed to the fact that there's still room for improvement.

"They did a great job of staying in that mindset tonight. We didn’t execute everything flawlessly, but it was certainly enough and we stayed pretty even with our NQS."

The LSU Tigers and the Arkansas Razorbacks both advance to the Penn State Regional Final, joining Michigan State and Kentucky. The four teams will face off on Saturday at 4:00 PM Central Time on ESPN + with the two best teams advancing to the Elite Eight in Fort Worth, Texas.
