After defeating No. 4 Clemson on the road on Saturday night, LSU fans expected a big jump in the AP Poll this week. That's exactly what they got.

LSU jumps in AP Poll following massive win at Clemson

In the official Week 2 AP Top 25 Poll, LSU jumped six spots from No. 9 to No. 3. LSU is the highest-ranked SEC team, with four teams from the conference appearing in the top-10, and 10 SEC teams cracking the top-25. Only Ohio State and Penn State sit in front of the Tigers after one week of play. LSU jumped ahead of Alabama, Oregon, Notre Dame, Georgia, Clemson and Texas, as all of those teams were ranked ahead of the Tigers in the Week 1 AP Top 25 Poll.

The position at No. 3 is LSU's highest ranking since its historic 2019 season. That will get the attention of every college football fan. But LSU could've jumped even higher. Given Ohio State's win over No. 1 Texas, it makes sense to see the Buckeyes go from No. 3 to the top spot. But No. 2 Penn State walked to a 46-11 win at home over Nevada in Week 1. LSU's win over Clemson is much more impressive than that, and there's a strong argument that LSU should be No. 2.

The Clemson Tigers fell from No. 4 to No. 8 following their defeat to LSU in front of their home fans in Week 1. Other notable falls include Alabama going from No. 8 to No. 21, and Texas from No. 1 to No. 7.

LSU is set to host Louisiana Tech this Saturday night at Tiger Stadium before opening SEC play against Florida on Sept. 13. The Gators come in at No. 13 in the AP Top 25.
