As of late, the LSU Football team has been starting its recruiting push as the Tigers look to build out their 2026 recruiting class. While the 2026 recruiting class is the top priority, the 2027 class will start to receive offers from LSU's coaching staff with an eye toward the future. The State of Louisiana looks to be loaded in the 2027 cycle but, to land a top class you also need to land top recruits from Out of State.

The LSU Tigers latest offer in the 2027 recruiting class has gone out to Mississippi Native and elite defensive line recruit Ben'Jarvius Shumaker.

According to the On3 Industry Recruiting rankings, Shumaker is the 9th ranked recruit in the 2027 recruiting class, the 2nd ranked defensive lineman, and the top player in Mississippi. The LSU Tigers are set to lose some massive pieces on the defensive line before Shumaker would get to campus making him a significant need.

The LSU Football team has found a ton of success recruiting players out of Mississippi landing PJ Woodland in the 2024 recruiting class, Tyler Miller in the 2025 recruiting class, and currently hold a commitment from defensive lineman JaReylan McCoy in the 2026 recruiting cycle.

It will be tough for LSU to win out in this recruitment as it is for schools with most recruitments over the home team in the Ole Miss Rebels and Mississippi State. The X-Factor for LSU is Bo Davis who has had a ton of success as of late developing defensive tackles into early NFL Draft picks as well as being known as a great recruiter.

We're a long ways away from the signing day for the 2027 recruiting class but, it'll be interesting to follow Schumaker's recruitment to see if LSU is able to win out for an elite five-star recruit.
