LSU on the verge of losing its top ranked wide receiver before National Signing Day
This weekend was far and away LSU's biggest recruiting weekend of the year as the Tigers hosted 300 recruits and their familes. The Tigers had everyone on campus from Bryce Underwood to DJ Pickett to Harlem Berry and to targets like Jahkeem Stewart and Dakorien Moore. The one massive commitment that wasn't on campus was four-star wide receiver commit Derek Meadows.
Meadows hasn't been on a recruiting visit to Baton Rouge since committing and he was at Michigan last weekend. When this weekend rolled around and Meadows was visiting Notre Dame over LSU when everyone was on campus alarms started to go off.
It was a surprise when Meadows committed to LSU as everyone was expecting he'd land at Notre Dame or Alabama. After Meadows' visit to Notre Dame this weekend it appears that the Fighting Irish are the front runners to land Meadows on National Signing Day.
On3 isn't the only platform projecting that Meadows will be flipping as 24/7's Tom Loy hinted at Meadows landing at Notre Dame.
Losing Meadows would deal a blow to this recruiting class as he's a top 100 recruit according to On3's Industry Recruiting rankings. Losing Meadows would drop LSU down to just two wide receiver commits in the class which would mean they'll need to scramble to land one more or they'll need to hunt in the transfer portal.
LSU will be perfectly fine at wide receiver
As Nick Saban always says you can shake the trees down in Louisiana and playmakers will fall out. The Tigers two other commits at wide receiver are both Louisiana Natives in TaRon Francis and Phillip Wright. Francis is a four-star recruit and if you need any reason to believe he's going to pan out, you don't get the nickname "The Manchild" for no reason. Phillip Wright is an absolute burner that can stretch the field like a Chris Hilton Jr and can help supply that element post Hilton.
