Heading into the 2025 College Football season, the LSU Football team has high expectations placed on them as analysts around the Country believe the Tigers have a College Football Playoff caliber roster. One of the biggest reasons for the optimism around LSU this season is the fact that the Tigers return quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.
After a breakout season in his first year as LSU's starting quarterback, Garrett Nussmeier enters the season as a Heisman Trophy front runner. As Nussmeier returns for the season, everyone expects he'll take a massive leap like Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels did before him. While Nussmeier headlines LSU's quarterback room, the Tigers room as a whole is garnering a ton of respect.
LSU Football has the best quarterback room in the Country
Pro Football Focus released it's Top 10 quarterback rooms in College Football and the LSU Tigers sit atop the list where they belong.

The fact that Garrett Nussmeier is returning makes him the focal point of the Tigers elite quarterback room. In his first season as LSU's starter, Nussmeier threw for 4,052 yards with 29 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while rushing for another 3 touchdowns. As the Tigers loaded up on talent at the receiver position in the transfer portal, Nussmeier's numbers should take a massive leap especially with a full season under his belt.
While LSU missed out on landing the Nation's top recruit in this quarterback room, the Tigers pivot in the transfer portal is better in the short term and could pan out better long term. After spending most of the season as Mississippi State's starting quarterback, Michael Van Buren transferred into LSU to back up Nussmeier. Van Buren will give LSU an elite level back up who has SEC experience and will be able to run the offense if needed.
Behind Nussmeier and Van Buren, LSU has a pair of quarterbacks who could play a role for the Tigers this season. Ju'Juan Johnson has gone from Safety to Running Back and now his natural position of quarterback. Johnson gives the Tigers a dynamic piece who can play for the Tigers in certain packages as a rushing threat. Colin Hurley is recovering from injuries he sustained in an accident this winter. If Hurley is able to return to the field, he was a highly ranked quarterback recruit who's young because of his reclassification giving the Tiger a high upside piece.
The biggest key to winning a National Championship is having the right quarterback in place to lead the team. Garrett Nussmeier is that level of player but, it's the players behind Nussmeier that give LSU the back-up plan if Nussmeier misses anytime.
