LSU Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier suffers an injury leaving the Oklahoma Game
The LSU Football team is currently locked in a 7-7 tie with the Oklahoma Sooners in the regular season finale. Early on in this game, Garrett Nussmeier was taking a beating as Oklahoma's defensive line was giving LSU's offensive line some issues up the middle with one play resulting in a fumble recovered for a touchdown for the Sooners.
Early in the second quarter, Garrett Nussmeier dropped back to pass and was blown up as Will Campbell missed his block. After getting blown up, Garrett Nussmeier remained down grabbing at his shoulder before leaving the field with the medical staff.
Garrett Nussmeier left the game and went right into the medical tent where the staff evaluated his injury. The injury was significant enough that Garrett Nussmeier left the game without his pads heading into the locker room with the training staff.
When Garrett Nussmeier left the game, Vanderbilt Transfer quarterback AJ Swann came in to run the offense. Swann filled in for Nussmeier when he left the game against Florida while Rickie Collins was the backup earlier in the season.
On one hand, this is why you go out and land an AJ Swann as his experience is so valuable when you suffer an injury as you can turn to him with his experience. On the other hand, it would make a ton of sense to see what you have in Rickie Collins or Colin Hurley as you prepare to go into the offseason needing a quarterback.
The injury to Nussmeier affects more than just this game for both LSU and for Garrett Nussmeier. Nussmeier was seen as a potential candidate for the NFL Draft and a significant injury could affect that timeline. The Tigers also get a better look at the other quarterbacks in this room in the time that Nussmeier is sidelined.
