Don't look now, but college football is right around the corner. With the start of the regular season just weeks away, Tiger fans are gearing up for an exciting season of LSU football.
The 2025 preseason coaches poll has been released, which annually signals the close proximity of the upcoming season. The Tigers find themselves inside the top ten, as the poll has the Tigers listed as the No. 9 team in the country entering the 2025 season. According to the poll, LSU is the No. 4 team in the SEC, following Texas (1), Georgia (4), and Alabama (8).

LSU ranked as a top ten team in preseason coaches poll
The Texas Longhorns received the top spot in the preseason coaches poll. No. 2 Ohio State and No. 3 Penn State separate Texas and No. 4 Georgia, with Notre Dame rounding out the top five. The poll has LSU just ahead of Miami (FL), who comes in at No. 10.
Not surprisingly, the conference with the most spots in the preseason coaches poll is the SEC. Nine of the 25 spots in the poll come from the SEC, including four of the top ten. SEC schools included in the poll include Texas (1), Georgia (4), Alabama (8), LSU (9), South Carolina (13), Ole Miss (15), Florida (17), Tennessee (18), and Texas A&M (21).
The Tigers will play six teams featured in the preseason coaches poll this season: No. 6 Clemson, No. 8 Alabama, No. 13 South Carolina, No. 15 Ole Miss, No. 17 Florida, and No. 21 Texas A&M.
While preseason polls are entertaining, they often bear little to no relevance once the actual games begin. There are teams in this poll who will disappoint, and teams who will exceed expectations. A month from now, this poll could prove to be strictly peripheral.
At the same time, college football head coaches have a great feel for talent and rosters. They are the experts, which is why LSU cracking the top ten signals high expectations for Brian Kelly and the Tigers in 2025.
