The opening day of the transfer portal in College Football has been hectic as thousands of players across the sport enter their name into the transfer portal to begin their search for their next program. Early on, LSU has been linked to a ton of wide receivers, a few edge rushers, and some defensive backs but, as more names enter we'll see LSU more involved.

The Tigers have lost another member of the program however as defensive back JK Johnson will enter the transfer portal.

The move isn't too surprising as JK Johnson only appeared on special teams this season for LSU. Johnson transferred to LSU after two seasons at Ohio State where he started five games at cornerback. Once arriving at LSU, Johnson suffered a serious leg injury which cost him the entire 2023 season. This season as Zy Alexander and Ashton Stamps emerged at cornerback, Johnson's role was limited to mostly special teams duties.

Given that Stamps will return next season while players like DJ Pickett and PJ Woodland will compete for the other starting role, Johnson likely wouldn't have earned the starting job.

The Tigers will lose starting cornerback Zy Alexander who is out of eligibility while Zyaire Brown and JK Johnson enter the transfer portal at cornerback. If Alexander opts out of the Bowl Game, we'll see the young cornerbacks play more than we may have as LSU will have Ashton Stamps, Javien Toviano, Michael Turner, PJ Woodland, Wallace Foster, Craig Walton Jr, and Justin Echols available from the active roster. A player we could see at cornerback is do it all Freshman Ju'Juan Johnson who has played safety and running back this season.
