One of LSU's biggest issues this season has been its lack of a run game forcing the offense to rely heavily on its passing attack. When you aren't able to stay balanced on offense, it makes life so much easier on the defense as they can pin their ears back to get after the quarterback.

In LSU's two losses the glaring issue has been LSU's lack of a run game as the Tigers have become a one dimensional offense. Against USC, LSU picked up just 4.5 yards per carry which becomes 3.12 when you take out John Emery Jr's 39 yard run. This weekend against Texas A&M, the Tigers picked up just 35 yards on 22 carries which amounts to just 1.59 yards per carry.

The Tigers struggles haven't been limited to just its losses either as Nicholls State held LSU to just 3.2 yards per carry and Ole Miss held LSU to just 3.5 yards per carry.

After the game, Brian Kelly spoke on LSU's lack of a run game and how its hurting the offense specifically Garrett Nussmeier.

"You can’t make a living with 33 yards rushing. We’ve got to help Garrett out quite frankly. We have to give him a more balanced offense.Toug"

When you look at LSU's talent on offense and the complete lack of a run game its frustrating as LSU should be a team that should excel running the football.

When you look at the offensive line, the Tigers have so much talent in that group that its puzzling how the group is struggling in the run game. Left Tackle Will Campbell will be a top ten pick in this years draft and he'll likely land in the top five. Right Tackle Emery Jones Jr will most likely hear his name called as a first round pick. At guard, LSU has two veterans in Miles Frazier and Garrett Dellinger who will end up being NFL Draft selections. At Center LSU has its lone new starter in DJ Chester yet, Chester has some experience prior to this season.

At running back, LSU returned a veteran they had high hopes for in Josh Williams but, he's never gotten a true shake at being LSU's lead back. The Tigers had a ton of hope for Kaleb Jackson who showed flashes last season and in camp but, he has just 40 carries on the season. The Tigers lost John Emery Jr who looked explosive in the USC game which has led to Caden Durham bursting onto the scene as LSU's lead back.

Tough tests lie ahead where LSU will need its run game

When you look at the games left on LSU's schedule, the Tigers are going to need to find the balance on offense that they've been looking for all season. Next up is Alabama, and their defensive coordinator Kane Wommack will be able to help his inexperienced secondary if the Tigers can't make him stop the run. The biggest game where LSU will get eaten alive is against Oklahoma as the Sooners defense is too talented especially if they can shut one half of your offense down.
