As the College Baseball season winds down, everyone will start paying a little closer attention to the upperclassmen as well as the Draft eligible sophomores as the MLB Draft starts to approach. As of late the LSU Baseball team has been a talent factory with Paul Skenes and Dylan Crews going 1st and 2nd overall in 2023 quickly making their leap to the MLB.
This week, the MLB released its 2025 MLB Draft Top 150 prospects and 5 current LSU Tigers made their appearances which would point to them being early draft selections this Summer. Along with potentially losing players from the team, the LSU Baseball team often has to worry about its recruiting class as Jay Johnson's best signees often never play for LSU.
Heading into the final months of the College Baseball season, the following LSU Tigers are projected MLB selections.
- 9th Ranked - Kade Anderson - LHP
When Kade Anderson was wrapping up his High School career, Tommy John surgery cost him his Senior season which sent him to LSU rather than being an early MLB Draft pick. This season Kade Anderson made the jump becoming LSU's Friday starter and he's been one of the best pitchers in the Country. On the season, Anderson is 6-1 with a 3.76 ERA across 64.2 innings pitched with 102 strikeouts to 16 walks. On his resume, Anderson has stellar showings against Oklahoma, Texas, and Tennessee while he'll only continue to build his case to be the first college pitcher off the board the rest of the season.
- 66th Ranked - Daniel Dickinson - 2B
This week, Daniel Dickinson revealed Jay Johnson's recruiting pitch to him telling him that coming to LSU was a 9 month thing to go and win a National Championship an to send Dickinson to the MLB. This season Daniel Dickinson has shown he can play to the same level against SEC talent with a .338 average with 8 home runs and 40 RBIs. Dickinson has been on a long streak without a home run and if some of the early season power comes back down the stretch it'll only help Dickinson fly up the draft boards.
- 78th Ranked - Chase Shores - RHP
While Chase Shores hasn't had the best season coming off of Tommy John surgery, his tools will have MLB teams ready to take a chance on Shores earlier than many would expect. Shores has a tall frame with effortless velocity which MLB teams will be able to work with to develop Shores as a pitcher. Down the stretch of the season if Shores can bounce back from some of his recent struggles he could play his way into being a 2nd round pick.
- 90th Ranked - Jared Jones - 1B
As LSU Baseball fans saw last offseason, the MLB isn't that high on Jared Jones despite the fact that he has been one of the best hitters in college. The past two seasons, Jones has cut down on his strikeout rate which will help him if he enters the MLB Draft following this season. The MLB often likes a raw prospect with a ton of upside rather than a player like Jones who may be limited athletically but, is an established star which will give one MLB team a steal in Jared Jones.
- 132nd Ranked - Anthony Eyanson - RHP
After a breakout season at UC San Diego, Anthony Eyanson came to LSU looking to take another step in his development. While Eyanson struggled earlier in the season, over his last 5 starts he's only allowed more than 2 earned runs once as he continues to improve each week. MLB teams often want a pitcher with the ability to strike players out in bunches and Eyanson fits that bill perfectly with 91 punch outs on the year which will help him this Summer.
LSU signees
As always in College Baseball, when you recruit the elite of the elite, you run the risk of losing a signee when the MLB Draft rolls around which makes it more difficult to recruit than in any other sport. This season, LSU has 10 signees ranked inside the MLB's Top 150 Draft prospects which is an absurd amount with 18 signees in this class. Jay Johnson is known to get highly ranked prospects to campus as he got William Schmidt (15th), Derek Curiel (117th), and Cade Arrambide (115th) all to pass up the draft last season.
The following LSU signees are currently Top 150 MLB Draft prospects:
