The LSU Women's Golf team is ready to tee off their spring season at the Puerto Rico Classic, held at the Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, from February 2-4, 2025. With a 54-hole competition set on the lush 72 par, 6305-yard course, the Tigers aim for a strong start this year.

While LSU golf doesn't often command the same spotlight as women's basketball victories, the Tigers' golfers are building a reputation after an up-and-down fall season. Now, climbing the
leaderboard of the Purdue-hosted tournament, featuring both team and individual competitions is like sinking a long putt on a lightening fast green.

A Season of New Beginning

The Tigers' roster has seen some new addition, along with third year, Aine Donegan, who brings seasoned presence to the lineup. Complementing her are three-highly touted freshmen:

  • Samantha Olson from Phoenix, Arizona
  • Rocío Tajedo from Castellón de la Plana, Spain and
  • Josefin Widal from Halmstad, Sweden.

Despite a challenging fall season, LSU managed some standout individual performances. Notably, Jordan Fisher secured her first collegiate title at the Green Wave International, finishing at 5-under on the TPC Louisiana Course.

Freshman standout Rocío Tajedo has also captured attention. Ranked No. 39 on the World Amateur Golf Ranking and No. 17 in the NCAA Performance Ranking, Tajedo remains on the watchlist of the prestigious Annika Award, recognizing the female golfer each spring. If Tajedo receives the honor, she'll become the second Tiger in history to do so, following Ingrid Lindblad, who claimed the award in 2024.

Aiming to Improve Last Year's Performance

LSU entered 2024 Puerto Rico Women's Classic as a strong contender, narrowly finishing in second place. Despite great team round numbers 283-289-283, they came up just one shot shy of victory behind Arkansas Razorbacks. The No. 1 Golfweek Women's rank holder at the time, Ingrid Lindblad, led the Tigers with a 8-under performance, securing a solo second-place finish with rounds of 71-69-68.

As the Tigers return to the Grand Reserve GC, they'll aim to build on last year's near win, establishing momentum heading into the heart of their season.

For the fans unable to make the trip to Puerto Rico, the Tigers' next appearance will be on Feb 17 at the Moon Golf Invitational in Melbourne, Florida. Stay tuned as the Tigers take their shot at glory, beginning Feb 2, 7:30 am CT.
