Malik Nabers rookie season was outstanding for the New York Giants as the LSU alum took the NFL by storm. Despite missing time with injuries, Malik Nabers caught 109 passes for 1,204 yards and 7 touchdowns ranking 5th in receptions and 7th in yards. While Malik Nabers had an incredible rookie season, the situation around him was not the best for his development or the team.
The New York Giants started the season with Daniel Jones at quarterback and while he had success with Malik Nabers as a whole he didn't live up to his contract which led to his benching and release from the team. The Giants cycled in Drew Lock, Tommy DeVito, and Tim Boyle but, none were good enough to be an option long term.
This offseason was all about the Giants finding their answer to their quarterback dilemma. The team went out and signed Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston both of which give the team a steady veteran hand but, neither can be the option long term. On Thursday Night, the New York Giants traded back into the first round to find their long term quarterback alongside Malik Nabers.
The New York Giants pair SEC Rivals Jaxson Dart and Malik Nabers for the future
The New York Giants finally landed their long term quarterback by trading back up into the NFL draft selecting Malik Nabers former rival Jaxson Dart.
Long before the two were the cornerstones of the New York Giants, Malik Nabers and Jaxson Dart faced off twice in the SEC. Their first matchup wasn't a massive game as the Tigers beat Ole Miss 45-20. Jaxson Dart didn't have a stellar game as he went 19-34 for 283 yards with an interception while Malik Nabers caught 4 passes for 37 yards.
Their second matchup was one of the most incredible games of the college football season. Jaxson Dart ultimately got the win in a 55-49 thriller going 26-39 for 389 yards and 4 touchdowns while rushing for 50 yards and another score. Malik Nabers was dominant himself catching 8 passes for 102 yards.
The two now pair up in the Big Apple where they'll look to bring a struggling Giants franchise back to being competitive in the NFC East. Jaxson Dart won't start right away for the Giants but, when the two do get on the field together they'll likely be playing to keep the regime that picked them in place.
In Malik Nabers, Jaxson Dart couldn't ask for a better weapon to help ease him into the NFL as he gets an elite weapon that'll constantly get open. Jaxson Dart gives Malik Nabers some much needed consistency and his ability to make the intermediate throws will give Nabers a chance to make a ton of explosive plays.
The Giants will only continue to build around their young duo and it'll be exciting to see what the two can do once they take the field together.
