Former LSU star Malik Nabers has been sensational in his young NFL career. Nabers put together an incredible rookie campaign in 2024 that saw him rank 5th in the league with 109 catches and 7th with 1,204 receiving yards to go along with seven touchdowns. He was off to a strong start in his sophomore NFL season, racking up 238 receiving yards and two touchdowns through the first two weeks of the season.
Unfortunately, Nabers' Week 3 has been cut short because of a lower body injury the star wideout suffered in the 2nd quarter against the Chargers.
Malik Nabers injury update
The injury occurred when Nabers went up for a jump ball down the right side on a pass from New York QB Jaxson Dart. Dart got the Los Angeles defense to jump offsides, resulting in a "free play" where he wanted to take a deep shot to his best receiver. Nabers went up for the ball but wasn't able to haul it in, and instead came down with a lower body injury.
Nabers immediately grasped at his right knee and appeared to be in visible pain and severe discomfort. The former LSU star received several minutes of medical attention before getting carted off the field. He left the game with 6:12 to go in the 2nd quarter after tallying two catches for 13 yards on seven targets.
NFL Insider Ian Rapaport has reported that the fear is that Nabers tore his ACL. He won't return to Sunday's contest, and is set to undergo an MRI on Monday. If the ACL injury is confirmed, Nabers will likely miss the remainder of the season.
It goes without saying that losing Nabers is a huge loss for the Giants, who are already 0-3 on the season. Dart got his first starting opportunity on Sunday against the Chargers, and Giants fans were hoping he and Nabers could build strong chemistry and bring new life to New York's offense. Now, Dart is without a Pro-Bowl receiver as he tries to navigate his first season in the NFL.
