The 2025 NFL Draft is just about to kick off as 32 College Football superstars will have their dreams come true when their names are called as first round picks. For the LSU Football program, all eyes are on Will Campbell as the offensive tackle looks to become LSU's first player taken in the first round in program history. All indications are that Will Campbell won't have to wait long to hear his name called as the New England Patriots are eyeing him with the 4th overall pick.
The pre-draft process has been a massive debate over whether or not Will Campbell is worthy of being the 4th overall pick. While Campbell has three seasons of incredible tape protecting the blindside of Jayden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier, that hasn't been enough for NFL scouts. The big debate has been over Will Campbell's arm length as NFL scouts have concerns over if his arms are long enough to be a great left tackle.
Nick Saban pounds the table for LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell
During the lead in to the NFL Draft, former Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban is one of the analysts pounding the table for Will Campbell.
"I just think so much of Will Campbell as a person and as a player."Nick Saban
Nick Saban then dove into why the New England Patriots should be elated with drafting Will Campbell if they do indeed pull the trigger.
"I'm taking Will Campbell. I know him from recruiting him. He's a great kid. And I think he's a plug-and-play player."Nick Saban
Kirk Herbstreit then mentioned to Nick Saban the chatter about Will Campbell's arm length to which he quickly reminded every armchair GM to check the tape.
"It never seemed to bother him at LSU! We never got a sack on the guy."Nick Saban
The fact of the matter is that despite Will Campbell having shorter arms than NFL GMs would like, he's the most NFL ready offensive lineman in this class. Campbell's had "short arms" for his entire career yet it never hurt him facing off against elite edge rushers like Will Anderson, Dallas Turner, Shemar Stewart, and all of the other top talents the SEC has to offer.
As the draft has gotten closer, NFL teams and analysts have seemingly come around on the fact that Campbell's arms are shorter than many would like. The Patriots and Mike Vrabel seem to think Campbell is worthy of being a top 5 selection and analysts will be the first to admit the tape speaks for itself.
